Hey Tom's Hardware guys and girls. Currently I am returning my ASUS Xonar D2X for the ASUS Xonar Essence STX but they are hassling me with things like authorization from the Product Manager and/or the supplier. Is it really worth replacing the card with the Xonar Essence STX or should I keep my Xonar D2X? I use my Sennheiser PC 350 everyday with a good 6-7 hours of listening to music, watching YouTube videos and gaming. Also should I use my front panel audio headers to connect my headset into for the sound card (cause the card comes with front panel audio connector) in order to save the hassle of getting another 6.3mm (male) to 3.5mm (female) adapter (this is for the ASUS Xonar Essence STX)? Thanks in advance.

It's not worth it. Also, you don't have to create new threads asking the same question every few days.

The STX has betetr sound quality hands down. Never plug a nice set of cans or speakers into a cheez front panel hook it to the sound card for best fidelity and if a head phone amp is used.

ALso you might want to look to Sound Blaster Z series as they are absolutely astounding as well plus it has a headphone amp where the STX does not.

I'd rather you just bump your other thread. More duplicate threads will just increase the likelihood of someone reporting you. The world doesn't revolve around you.

Again, it's not worth it, especially since your STX is a better card.

ksham it looks like you misunderstood my situation. I currently have the ASUS Xonar D2X and I am thinking of replacing the sound card with the ASUS Xonar Essence STX. This is because I have no use of the 7.1 surround sound the D2X offers and the card does not have a headphone amp unlike the STX. But thank you for the advice of how Tom's Hardware Forum operate. So in the end would you recommend the STX over the D2X.

STX is a better card. But if you already have the D2X, I wouldn't bother. Sound quality difference is quite minimal. Unless you have high quality speakers, you won't likely hear the difference. D2X is better at surround sound while STX is a bit better in quality. As a music aficionado myself, I vote quality. Either way, I wouldn't blow more money on it.

My retailer is willing to approve my return and swap my sound card for the STX so I wouldn't be blowing any extra money on the STX card if I want to buy it ksham.

Hi, I own the Xonar DX and from what I have read in reviews you must have high level speakers in order to notice a difference. If you good speakers / amplifier and so forth - then there is a discernible difference between the two cards.

You have some audiophile quality headphones so you may hear a difference. The STX definitely produces a cleaner sound based on the reviews I have read. I bought the DX because even though I have very good equipment, I'm not sure I would hear a difference.
