Razer Naga Epic hitches, then freezes

I've had a Razer Naga Epic for about 6 months.
Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8, the mouse will periodically "freeze" for about a second, which is really annoying while playing games. After an indeterminate amount of time, its lights will start pulsating and all USB devices connected to my system will stop functioning, requiring a push-button restart. I use it with the cable permanently connected, and the battery removed. Never used it wirelessly.
If I use my old MS Sidewinder mouse, the problem goes away, but I'm kinda attached to the side-button goodness of the Naga.
It obviously has something to do with the mouse, just not sure whether it is software or hardware related. Didn't happen while I was using Windows 7, so I thought it might be something to do with the newer version of Synapse 2.0, or a Windows 8 issue.
Tried all sorts of fixes from Google, but can't seem to find the exact same issue.

- Tried cleaning the sensor with alcohol.
- Tried removing Synapse and using the old drivers, but it says "No Razer device connected".
- Although I always have Synapse in offline mode, tried shutting it down anyway, and restarting it when I need to change a profile.
- Tried re-installing the firmware.
- Tried using it with Windows generic drivers (No macros, but the side buttons still relate to numeric equivalents).

None of the above fixes helped. The funny thing is that it doesn't happen on my work laptop (Windows 7, latest Synapse 2.0). Pretty sure it's not my personal PC either, as I have no problems with any other devices.

All I can think of, is that it's some obscure incompatibility issue. Anyone else experiencing this, or have any suggestions other than RMA?

You basically answered your on problem. It is having a compatibility problems with windows 8. I use mine with windows 7 also and have no problems.
  2. Well, that sucks. My options are to downgrade (My opinion) to Windows 7 or buy a new mouse (Not gonna be easy convincing the wife).
A buddy of mine has the same mouse, the same version of Windows 8 and no issues.

    Thanks for the advice, though.
  3. Guys i have the same thing at startup with my naga 2014 in win 8 , have you guys found another solution ? i really love win 8...
  4. Seriously that's the answer of the problem? Windows compatibility? Now that's ridiculous. So basically razer doesn't allow you to use razer mouse on windows 8 or 8.1. My cursor literally freezes over and over while playing games. Bought the mouse for 5.3K INR and it has the most annoying sensor issue. Razer pls stop making more products. And on top of that my mouse's left click now working as double click. and they dont even cover this in their warranty. I mean WHAT THE [profanity].
