Hi all,

I have recently installed an FX8350 in existing ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2 MOBO.

I was using fx4100 earlier on this motherboard, and it was running decently in WOW. Was getting decent 30-50 FPS. Now after installing the fx8350, my FPS has dropped to 5-10. :(

My GPU is ATI HD6700 series, 1GB.

8Gb DDR3 RAM.

Please help me.

Hi. Thank u for the reply. Checked my BIOS. It is the following. I guess it is the latest.

HPQOEM - 20120904
BIOS Date: 09/04/12 15:27:28 Ver: 12.01.

Is there a possiblity my GPU is outdated for this processor? My GPU 6700 series, 1gb is almost 2.5 years old. When I was running it with the previous fx 4100 , windows gave me a 7.2 rating for GPU. Now it has gone down to 6.

Can the motherboard can be an issue? Since my MOBO supports upto 125 W processors, this FX8350 needs 125.

Thank u for the reply.

Is there a possiblity my MOBO is slowing down the processor? Can this happen while running high CPU demanding games? Looking forward to ur reply guys.

MOBO Model - ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2 . It supports upto 125w I guess,
Processor - FX8350. 125 w.
PSU-Tagan 600 W

I am encountering this issue only after installing the new CPU.

Kind Regards.Sahas

If your MoBo supports 125W you should be fine there.

I would guess your PSU could be the culprit...I am not 100% certain, but it sounds like power issues. Have your PSU tested to make sure it provides stable voltage and power, and that it is indeed providing the amount of power that was advertised.

Thank u for the reply.

I have been using this Tagan 600w PSU for around 3 years and it has not caused any problems till date. Is there a way to check if it is delivering the exact amount of power?

If the FPS drop is due to power issue then should it not heat up my CPU? or how did it run the fx4100 smoothly? Only having this problem after installing the fx8350.

PL find below the HW monitor screen shots.

thank u.

I am not sure about the PSU issue because it was all running fine till yesterday. :(

Attached link from HW monitor. Kindly advice.

HWMonitor cannot tell if the PSU is consistent. It's ok if it was fine, though everything has a limited life span in a PC...your PSU may have just reached it's lifespan. You would have to take your PSU down to a PC repair shop to have it tested...it shouldn't take long and they can tell you the issue, if it exists, quickly.

Hi Howe,

I disabled cool and quiet and it did help a lot. My fps is around 60-70 now. Will I get better FPS when I upgrade the 6700 GPU to something better? I play in High settings. :)

Also, are u sure my mobo will support this processor? The shop guy was saying it is a low end mobo and it will not run the fx8350 well.

Please advice.

Will the ASUS SUS M5A78L-M LX V2 MOBO work well with the FX8350?

Kindly also let me know if I can upgrade my GPU from 6700 to 7700. Is it worth the upgrade? I mainly use the comp for playing WOW>

Yes, I have a coolermaster TX3 EVO. But i am not sure if it will cool the mobo. Can you guys suggest a good mobo with a decnt price tag?

so if the VRMS are of low quality, does it affect the FPS and the performance of the processor?

The following are available in India.

ASUS M5A97 Motherboard,ASRock 970 Extreme 4 Motherboard ,ASRock 970 Extreme3 Motherboard.

If i continue using this mobo, will I get a performance loss? If its gonna be a FPS drop, how much will it be.

Thank u in advance.

For stock settings, they should work fine, so the other possibility is that your MoBo is defective and the VRMs are not working fine. It's not out the possibilities at all. Also, fan setting inside your MoBo could be affecting temperatures. Since most MoBos now have "Smart Fan" handling, you have to set them up manually to keep things cooled up.

If you really want to get another MoBo, this one would be rally fine IMO:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/970A-G46.html

Just built a PC with one of those and a FX4300. It went to 4.3Ghz with no sweat, so it should handle the stock FX8350 with no problems. It's not the most feature rich MoBo out there, but gets the job done and you won't miss any features.

Cheers!

Yuka's recommendation would be a fine mobo as well as the Asus M5A97 and the Asrock 970 extreme3 would be good as well.

If you want to upgrade your GPU to the 7700 series, I would recommend the HD 7790 that just came out, it's a lot of GPU for the money.

Thank you.

With regards to the motherboard, do i need to upgrade my cabinet or will the new mobo is the same size as the one i have? I have a zebronics shivaji cabinet.

With regards to the GPU, How about the GTX 650 ti? Will that be a good upgrade for me?

Also is my system balanced? or will it be balanced with the new mobo?

Kind Regards.Sahas

Your current board is a micro atx, if your case is a tight fit then you may need a new case, otherwise you'll be fine.

Alright, so today I went and got myself a new mobo. So this is what my config looks like at present. Is this balanced?

Mobo - Asus m5a78l-m usb3 - Bios version says 1503. Is this enough to run this processor?

GPU - FX8350

RAM - 12GB DDR 3

PSU - 600w Tagan

GPU - HD 6700 series, 1 GB DDR 5.

HDD - 600GB.

Regards.Sahas

Should be, yes.

If you can, update the BIOS to the latest stable one if you encounter problems. At first, see if it works fine and if it does, then don't mind updating the BIOS in my opinion.

What is bugging me a little, is the amount of RAM, haha. 12GB? Did you get 2x4GB and 2x2GB? Is it the exact same timing and speed (or model)?

Cheers!

Hi Yuka, yes ive got 12gb RAM. :p my mobo has 4 slots in total. One dual channel has 2x 4gb Transcend. I have only put a single 4gb Corsair RAM in the other slot. One slot is free.

So in total it is

2x Transcend 4 GB.
1x Corsaid 4GB.

I am not very sure about the timings and the speed, but they all are DDR3.

Then I suggest stick with 2x4GB for now and read the instructions on where to put them for Dual Channel to work fine.

If you use that separate 4Gb module, then you'll loose Dual Channel... Unless un-ganged mode can use 3 sticks, but I'm not sure on that one to be honest.

Cheers!

Got another 4GB same Corsair.

My mobo has 1Black , 1 Blue, 1 Black, 1 Blue RAM slot.

I have used the 2x Corsair in the Black and the 2x Transcend in the Blue. Does this satisfy dual channel functionality? I tried reading in the motherboard manual. They havent mentioned anything about it.

Also 1 more thing.

Since I have disabled my Cool and Quiet, I see my processor temp is reaching 62 degrees while in full load, but yes it does come doen and go up again. Got Hyper TX3 from Cooler Master.

Is it safe to disable cool and quiet? I am sure reenabling it drastifically affects my FPS.
