I bought a new hard disk, its sata3 WD 5000AAKX and my older one was sata2. I have gigabyte motherboard p55A-UD3R and can someone explain me how to connect sata 3 because I have marvell chip and I don't know what drivers do I have to install and what do I have to change in BIOS. Thanks

In addition to what others have said, after connecting the drive you will need to go into disk management and initialize (partition & format) the drive before it will show in windows. Without this step, it will only appear under device manager and disk management.

You can connect a sata3 drive to any of your sata ports and it will run.

Also, hard drives cannot max out the sata2 interface. The sata3 label on harddrives is just a marketing gimmick. You should be good to go just swapping them out with the same cable, no performance lost.

Hello,
Your MB has 6 SATA II connectors (blue color) that are part of the PCH chipset, and theoretically have transfer rates of ~ 2400 Mb/s, or ~ 800 MB/s. You new WD Blue drive has a average transfer rate of slightly less than 100 MB/s, so there is nothing to worry about saturating your regular SATA II connectors. It will never happen. I would forget about the Marvel separate chip, and use the Intel SATA II connectors, where you can just connect your HDD's or SDDs and they will just work. No drivers to install, no Marvel chip drivers to worry about, or problems with it. You didn't say how many drives you presently have connected, but as Basic Drives, no RAID, you should be fine!
