i5 2500k Temps 80c + with h60 cooler

Hi all,

I currently have my 2500k clocked at 4.8 and my temps are about 33c idle and under load are hitting 84 after about 2 mins of running prime95.

I'm using an offset of -10 for the overclock and the highest voltage it hits is 1.392.

Is this too high? I'm a bit worried about keeping it this way if it's gonna burn out my cpu.

yes thats high you really dont want to go near 70c especially that quickly. the h60 isnt made for that high of an overclock. i would try maybe adding a second fan to it as well as trying to use a lower vcore to reduce your temps.

also dont use core temp find a program for your mobo for more accurate temps

the H60 isn't that good of a cooler for OC'ing. Get the Noctua listed in my signature, or get the H80i or H100i.

I hit 4.8GHz and prime95'ed for an hour without going higher than 75C, but it BSOD and I couldn't get it stable...

Thanks for the quick reply.

How would i use the mobo to find the temps? Ai suite? And as for a second fan, how should i have it setup? Currently i just have the fan provided with the h60 as an intake from the rear an exhaust fan on top and an intake fan on the front of the case.

Also when i'm using offset for the overclock i don't have the option to chooser the voltage do i? Or am i just being stupid lol (sorry i'm a bit new to overclocking)

ai suite is a good option, i use it as well. as far as your fan setups, both blowing in your case will be a good idea since you are sucking in colder air instead of ot air from your case. as long as you have enough exhaust fans in your case i would run that setup.

as far as vcore you will have an option, it is most likely on auto at the moment. it should be set manually . honestly i would just lower the vcore as well as the clock speed to about 4.5. id rather have a cooler cpu. but in most case you wont see near those temps since thats full load.

i had my 8320 clocked at 1.5v @ 5.2ghz and my temps were still pretty good under load but youll find in some games they dont play well with high overclocks.

Right just spent ages looking through my bios and when using offset mode i don't have an option to set the vcore manually, i only have the option to set the offset.

Are there any actual benefits to using offset as appose to manual? Cause i'm not 100% tbh, i just know that it drops my cpu voltage when it's not needed.

Yeah might change it now judging by the temps i'm getting. How loud is the Noctua? Cause it looks huge lol.

there shouls be manual mode for changing the vcore atleast my asus board there is. there is no difference tho by using offset, youll just have to add the difference to get your v core and adjust for vcore droop depending on your settings.

but instead of buying another cooler honestly i would just add a second radiator, you can buy a decent copper rad the same size for like 30 bucks and you can buy a resevior or go without and have a custom loop using that pump and block.

it would be well worth it since you basically dont need much to do it and it looks sweet. i did this with some old pump and rad combos and actually got better results than my new 240 mm rad.


tubing is like 10 bucks for 10 feet, plus some clamps, and a res for 20 bucks using the swiftech mini res

i use PC cooler ( duplicate the Spire thermax eclipse II from local ) get 5.1 with 1.44v at 75C but i see other good cooler is Phantex .. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709001

1.39v for4.8 seem high for me but every chip will different voltage

the benchmark isn't standard test stablity but if do benchmark CPU and unstable will get my favorite :D
