I am a first time builder and some insight to my issue would be greatly appreciated.
When using different psu calculators online they all give me different results i have had some tell me my rig will use 450W (low) some say 650W-750W and the PSU calculator that the MB manufacturer provides says a minimum of 950W are needed.

Here is my new rig:
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+
XFX Double D FX-787A-CDBC Radeon HD 7870 GHz. x2
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM
AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo)
4x 200mm fans
2x 140mm fans
dvd/rw

I initially purchased a 850W Psu thinking that would be enough, but again the MB manufacturer recomends at least 950W.

What do you all think ?

Thanks

For a system using two XFX Double D HD 7870 Black Edition [FX-787A-CDBC] graphics cards in 2-way CrossFireX mode XFX specifies a minimum of an 650 Watt or greater system power supply. The power supply should also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 47 Amps or greater and have at least four 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most critical factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) will require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

The XFX Pro Series 650W Modular Edition Modular (Bronze) (P1-650X-XXB9), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 53 Amps and with four (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is sufficient to power your system configuration with two XFX Double D HD 7870 Black Edition [FX-787A-CDBC] graphics cards in 2-way CrossFireX mode.

If you want more headroom you can get the 750 Watt version.
