Hello everyone, I am going to be building a computer for gaming. It will be mainly for playing BF3/BF4 and I might play WOW/rts/MMO but the priority is BF3/BF4.

I was planning on getting the FX-6300 and then saw that the i5-3470 is only around $60 more.

I am able to afford the i5-3470 but is there a big difference between the two in performance? I am planning on getting a GTX 660 or maybe a 7850 2GB and I will not overclock. The PC will be for gaming and web browsing.

Would the i5-3470 offer much improved performance over the 6300?

thats what i did. i got my 6300 instead of an i5, then put a lot of money towards gpu. i suggest you get the 6300 (its a beast) and get a better graphics card say 7870 le ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484&Tpk=7870%20tahiti&IsVirtualParent=1 ) these cards run on the tahiti architecture which makes them very close to 7950 in terms of performance.

I would rather put that money in the graphic card, provided that the main purpose of your PC is gaming. 60$ more spent on video card will reflect better in FPS than 60$ more spent on CPU. On top of that, there's not so much of a difference between the two CPUs, however 3470 beats fx-6300 (by a slight margin).
