Hi,

I have an Asrock A85x Extreme 4 M board and have been attempting to overclock my Athlon 750k. I have managed to get to 4.4GHz @ 1.45v however when I run AMD's stability tests my system restarts a few minutes in, the CPU temp was not above 50c so I touched the VRM heatsink on my motherboard and they were very hot (could only touch it for ~2 seconds)

I can only assume that the VRM is the problem as the APU version of my CPU could go to 4.6GHz on the same motherboard in a review, and this motherboard is recommended for overclocking. I'm not sure what I can do in this situation, could it be the heatsinks aren't seated properly?

Thanks :)

^ Pretty much.
Its a decent precaustion to take when overclocking, especially amongst the water-coolers as you lose that airflow around the socket itself and therefore VRM cooling. I just zip tied an old AMD 80mm stock fan to the rear fan grill and some tubes that were nearby to blow air at the socket.
