Greetings,

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1187c with integrated graphics (DX 10.1) on a IPISB-CU (Carmel 2) motherboard. I upgraded the power supply to a Corsair 550 (no problem) and then installed a Gigabyte GEFORCE GTX 650 ti graphics card. THe card is getting power judging by the fact the fan is spinning.

When I attempted to install the driver from the CD supplied by Gigabyte, I immediately get the message: This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware so was not able to install." I'm a computer novice so this message means nothing to me. Any help as to what the next step should be would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible that my motherboard simply will not allow for a separate graphics card?

I needed to upgrade the graphics card to be able to run X-Plane 10.

Thanks again for any help.

go to Nvidia.com and download the latest driver from there. the drivers from the disks are very old and Windows will automatically update it anyways so why not skip a step and get the proper driver to start with.

EDIT: as long as your Mother board has a PCI-e x 16 slot then your PC can handle a separate GPU.

Actually I did connect the monitor to the video card and only got a blank screen. No driver I guess explains that. Note the video card is not shown in the device manager.

1. make sure the card is seated in the PCI-e slot all the way.
2. make sure the 6 Pin power connector is connected from the power supply.

IF both of these are correct then with the monitor connected, even without a driver you WILL get video. If there is no video then the card is defective.

EDIT: because the system is not recognizing the card Chances are either it is not seated properly in the motherboard PCI-e slot or the card is defective.

Just got mine to work!! heres what you do take the card out let it sit for a minute. If you look at the top of the card there is a tiny little switch. switch it to position #1. put the card back in and it sould work. I just got the run around from hp and they wanted me to pay $50 to might solve the problem. lol
