I just bought a Compaq CQ58-278SA, basically my problem is the machine is stating I have a max vram available of 1.65 GB, but right now the number is 64mb. How do I go about increasing it? Thanks for any help

You are probably seeing only 64MB of free RAM because the rest are in use by your operating system, programs and background applications.

Consider upgrading to 4GB of RAM, or more if you have a 64-bit system. A computer repair shop that does laptops can get it done.

64mb is the amount of dedicated vram your laptop has. Intel GPUs (possibly others, I'm not sure) will use system memory as vram, so the 1.65gb is the maximum amount of vram accessible to the GPU, taking into account the 64mb dedicated and the shared system memory. In a laptop (at least in laptops that don't cost thousands of pounds/dollars), this can't be increased.

Ahhhh I thought he was talking about system RAM. My bad...

In this case you are talking about VRAM. Your Compaq has a processor with integrated graphics. The 64MB of VRAM is the minimum amount of system RAM that being allocated for graphics purpose. It will consume more system RAM to be used as VRAM as amd when required.
