Hi all,

I have ordered the Nvidia GTX 650 Ti Boost Edition GPU. My PSU is Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 600w which only gives 18A on +12v rail. So, I want to know whether my PSU will be able to handle that GPU or it will not let the GPU boot?

My processor is AMD FX-4100 and I only have 1 500GB HDD. So, there is not much load on the PSU I guess. :)

Coolermaster in general and that model in particular have problems. It actually has 2 x 18a 12v rails but is still massively overrated as it should be listed as a 450w unit if they were honest when labeling it.

It's also made by Seventeam and that is never a good thing.

The good news is that a GTX 650 Ti Boost model only needs a recommended 450 watts. And that is what you have. A 450w power supply. So it will very likely be fine. I would replace it no matter what with something of better quality. But if you can't afford that right now the Coolermaster should work...

Thanks anort3 for your quick reply. I read somewhere that GTX 650 Ti Boost needs 24A on +12v rail but my PSU has only 18A. Woudn't that cause some kind of issue? Just need to confirm. :)

No you have 2 rails with 18 amps each. It's not like you can overload a rail. Power is distributed as needed.

Amps x volts = watts. All quality power supplies provide most if not all their rated power on the 12v rail since that is the most important part in a modern computer. So with 36 amps providing 432 watts on the 12v rail that unit should be labeled as a 450w power supply.

Read the Hardwaresecrets article. They have exposed quite a few Coolermaster models as having liar labels. I never recommend their units even though the Silent Pro series is decent just because of all the budget models they lie about.

So just disregard the multiple rail thing. It will not matter. Power goes where it's needed. There are 900w plus power supplies out there with say multiple 18 amp rails. Those would be useless for anything except like 5 x HD 7770s if you had to worry about overloading rails. Don't think there is much of a market for something like that!
