Hi everyone.

I'll jump straight into it. I want to find the 4 cheapest Nvidia/ATI cards possible that allow you to have a 4 way SLI. This isnt because I think it will perform well or anything, I have a dual 670 set up for that, I am simply interested to see how a 4 way cheap SLI set up stacks up against a modern day card. If anyone could tell me what the cheapest SLI/Crossfire card is to get I would appreciate it.

Note:- If you suggest an ATI crossfire card, could you please advise me on the actual setting up of it, as I have no experience of crossfire what so ever. I have only ever used, and only want to use SLI.

Also, if you could let me know whether the card you suggest is software only or physical SLI/Crossfire I would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers!

No they aren't. When you are looking for 4 way sli, the cards that were able to do that were the top model's of their generation. For example: 480's, 570's, 580's, 680's etc (just to name a few). A mid tier card say a 460 gtx is not able to do tri-sli let alone 4. A 285 can do 4 way sli. So when you look for these cards, you have to look towards the top models of each generation. Also while you are selecting these older generations, be aware the older you go the more pointless it is to test a system in sli. If 8600's were able to do quad, I bet my single 460 would beat the sli build. I don't think you would want to go more than 3 generations back.

Hi barto, thanks for your input.

Thanks for clearing that up, I didnt think that 8600's were quad SLI capable. I think you misunderstand me, I'm not looking for a cheap quad SLI option because I think it would be great just because its quad, im simply inerested to see how an older generation quad SLI stacks up against lets say a single 670. I understand that the 670 would obilterate any older cards, but im doing some research into how much each generation of cards have been improved by. =)

I get hear ya. Well, I wish you the best of luck. One thing I forgot to highlight is the fact that older cards will suck the life out of a PSU. If you are able to buy 4 cards to do quad sli, you better have a beefy PSU (1000w+).

a 9800gx2 is basically two 9800 running SLI on a single card so theoretically two of them should compare to 4x9800.
If you ever get this done be sure to let us know the results, eh?

Also I can't believe how many people that can't get what you are trying to do and recommends a single card. lol.

Hi everyone!

@ Mahisse - Thanks for clarifying, That makes things alot simpler. As luck would have it I have just found 2 x BRAND NEW 9800gx2's for £80! I am currently bidding on them. 1 day to go, fingers crossed! XD And if I end up getting them I will be sure to post my findings on this thread!

@ Winkay - Why not 5 Titan's? Use the 5th one for PhysX! LOL! But seriously, if I could afford a Titan I would be snapping one uo in an instant. So much Awesome! :-O

@ Coolitic - As I have stated above I have found 2 9800gx2's for under £100, which is 4-way SLI and within my budget. I respectfully disagree with your statement.

Thanks for all your help guys!
