Future SLI-ing, and how a new card compares to the older one?

Just thinking about a possible future SLI setup. Hypothetically, if I have my 680 for the next two years then decide to SLI to boost performance, is there a clear divide between the quality of the old card versus the new card I would buy to SLI with?

Also, what if I modestly overclock the GPU for that two years, is that bad for SLI-ing two years down the road?

As long as your first card isn't damaged, it should SLI just fine. OC-ing won't change anything in the process of SLI-ing, I believe. You could always overclock the new card so they are the same as well.
