Hi please could someone recommend a good monitor that will mainly be used for the following: (my budget is £300 but could push to £350 max)

Gaming - Primary Usage (3D is NOT a requirement)
Viewing and light photo editing
Watching movies (although this will mainly be done via a TV)
Internet Browsing

I have done some reviews on Tech Radar / Pc Pro Pc Advisor and Digital Versus but im getting mixed reviews.

I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thank You
K

Hi JD88

Many thanks for your response the Asus is one i had on my list I had got it down to three the Asus you mention (which has integrated bang & olufsen speakers gotta be a bonus) which was my 1st choice until reading a shoddy report on tech radar which made me start to question my choice.
The others were AOC I2757FM and a LG IPS277L
The BenQ you listed is a real bargain at the price but I must admit the Asus was my original favourite but was put off by tech radar and I'm not that techy so thought my best bet was to ask on here.
I'm not bothered about viewing angles just the best picture quality for gaming.

Thank you
K

If this is the case, that BenQ model is probably a good option for you. It's not an IPS panel, but if you don't care about viewing angels that doesn't really matter. Might as well save some money. It has excellent reviews on Newegg in the U.S. right now.

Hi Hippo,

The monitor you listed looks immense at the spec! Will it be any good for gaming with a 6ms response time. Also I'm pretty sure that this is what apple call their retina display at that resolution??

Thank you

Hi JD 88

The viewing angles don't really matter as ill be sat right in front of it and I don't play and first person shooters or anything just mmo's WoW SWTOR and Diablo 3 anything else I play on a Xbox and I would definitely save some cash by going with the BenQ I don't need the panel to have any sound as I've already got a nice 2.1 system it runs through will the picture quality on that BenQ be pretty good??

Thank you

The Catleap monitor is a sometimes good generic monitor that uses an LG 27" IPS panel with a 2560x1440. It is also sold at a very low price.

The problem is, they are not sold by any retailer and must be ordered straight from Korea (or some other part of Asia) through eBay. Many are shipped with dead pixels and you have little recourse if you get a defective one. It's always seemed pretty risky to me, but many have done it with success.

I can't comment personally on the BenQ, other than to say that it has excellent reviews on every site that it is sold. BenQ monitors are also used by Major League Gaming.

Everything I've seen on that monitor looks good. One thing to note is that Amazon UK lists it as an IPS panel when it is in fact a TN panel. 2ms response time is also very nice. I have had good luck with AOC monitors in the past and recommend them frequently as a high quality yet low priced option.
