I hav spent the last 3 hours with AT&T trying to access the IP address to connect to the internet.
At&T is stating that the pc will not accept the ip address they supplied.
Is there anyway I can check the pc to see if the computer is faulty or is there something else I could do to try and get internet connection.
Any help would be appreciated> Thanks

Hello,
I have AT&T service, 2 wire modem, with broadband. I think the pc was in a working corporation enviorment with an admin. setup.
We have tried to add the required ip addresses, does not take.
I'm not that computer savy and was wondering if there is something missing in the pc -- driver or something.Took the firewall off - tried loading again.Still will not take.
BUT - there is something weird. Under lan connection when I click on the internet connection - it shows I am connected to the internet.

Try going to the status of your connection, usually found by clicking on the LAN picture in the systems tray and going to properties click on internet protocol IPv4 and click properties and make sure everything is set to automatic. Though, I'd imagine att would of already asked you to do this. If you are using iE you might want to default all the setting to make sure it isn't doing anything funky. Usually found while in the browser by pressing Alt and seen in the top left hand side under tolls, option should be called Internet Options. Going to the advanced tab and resetting everything. Though often ISPs ask you to do this as well. You say it says you have an internet connection. Try doing a ping to an external IP address. Holding the 'windows key' and pressing 'R' at the same time should open 'Run". You can than type 'cmd' into it and press 'enter', a black box should open and you can than type 'ping 4.2.2.2' into it and hit enter. If you get a reply, than for sure it is your internet browser. If you don't get a reply you can do a traceroute. in the same black box type 'tracert tomshardware.com' and take a screen shot of that. Should be able to help more than.
