Hello Everyone, This is my first time building a PC and I am a newbie. My PC will be used for gaming BF3/BF4, general web browsing/youtube and watching movies.I will not be overclocking at all.

The components I have chosen are

CPU- AMD FX-6300

Motherboard-ASUS M5a97 R2.0- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3858039&CatId=7248

RAM- Patriot Viper 3 8GB 1600mhz 1.5V- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3473446&CatId=4534

SSD- Samsung 840 series 120GB- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5247113&CatId=5300

PSU- Corsair CX series 500W- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7564402&CatId=1079

Case- Zalman Z11- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2231049&CatId=3427

Graphics Card- GTX 660 2GB

OS- Windows 7 64Bit

I might change up the ram and PSU if I find better deals and those prices aren't final since I will be shopping around.

I heard that the FX-6300 might have problems with the motherboard but I found out that has been cleared up now and it will work out of the box.

Is this a good build? I need something fast which allows me to play BF3 and general web browsing without being slow.

I have hardly played games on a PC before so I am not too sure about the resolution but for settings I am looking at medium to high settings. Just decent enough that its clear and playable

I will be connecting the PC to a 19 inch TV

Okay. Change your motherboard to the asrock 970 extreme3 R2 or the extreme4. They are both very good. I have the extreme 4 as its only $10 more.
I would say you would at least need 600watts for this build. I have a 620w psu and I have a similar build to yours.
Are you sure you just want an SSD? There won't be that much space in your computer. I would use the money to by at least a 1T HDD, or if you're willing, both (but that would go over the budget).
I would buy an aftermarket cpu cooler, as the stocked one will oc the cpu to 4.1Ghz but the temperature would be blazing. The coolermaster HYPER TX3 Evo is a good budget cooler for the money.
Personally I would go for a radeon 7870 2gb as it is the same price but runs most games faster and smoother. You will miss out on phyX and all that, but the cpu should back that up.
A full review is here: http://www.techspot.com/review/603-best-graphics-cards/page4.html
And lastly, do you need an optical drive? If so I would go for an ihas or lg. Samsung are a bit hit and miss atm.

Controversy is fine if you have anything to say :)

Why exactly those mother boards? I will not be overclocking at all and I have never built a computer before I also have no idea how to overclock and really have no interest in overclocking.

I already have a 1TB portable HD and maybe later on I can always get a bigger internal HDD but for my needs the 128GB SSD will be enough.

I will check out the 7870 if it's around the same price I will go for it then.

They are not motherboards dedicated just to overclocking. That is just a bonus. The main reason I chose them is because they have enough room for future upgrades.
I mean, I didn't want to overclock at all in my first build, but sometimes you don't even realize you're doing it. It is just a precaution so your cpu won't overheat in game and for future upgrades.
A 120gb - 128gb SSD is good, I don't think anyone I know has ever gotten bigger than that.
I do not know if the 7870 is the same price in Canada, but they should be similar enough to not go over the budget.

What about the 970 extrme3? It doesn't look like the pro is available here. And would the extreme3 work with the FX-6300 out of the box?

Also if I play games and I install the OS on the SSD do the games have to be installed on the SSD or can they also go on the HDD?

Thank you very much. The 970 extreme3 supports 1333 RAM and it supports 1600mhz and higher if overclocked. I will not be overclocking.

Would there be a noticeable difference for general use and gaming between 1333 and 1600? And would 1600 work on this motherboard?
