Hey,

In a net shell i can't power up my computer with the CPU seated.

I've bench tested my motherboard, testing each component at a time and it powers up perfectly until i try my CPU by its self.

Assuming the CPU was fried i brought a used CPU on ebay for 20 pounds, seated it into the motherboard and the same problem persists until the CPU is removed

I've tested the Power supply unit with a multimetre and it seems to be givinig the correct reading including on the 4 pin.

I've looked at the motherboard for imperfections and it seems fine, no burnt compositors or chips

For what is worth i'm running;
Motherboard: ASUS P5N-e SLI
CPU: Intel duo core 2 6400
PSU: ATX 500 watt (win power?)
Video Card: Geforce GT series

Additional information:
Computer hasn't been used much in the past 2 year so i restored it the day it stopped working

the computer switched off while playing a game as if the power button well held in

It could still be your PSU, particularly if it has more than one +12Volt rail. What happens is only one of the rails goes bad, you still measure +12 volts with a multimeter, then the first time you try to draw more amps than a single rail can provide, it shuts down.

@ihog

I've checked the pins in the CPU socket and from what i can see they're all pointing the same direction

the seller on ebay has 99.6 rating and said the CPU was working with over 6000 sales a year i will be sending the CPUs to the computer shop to test them tomorrow because i have not got the resources to test them.

Yes it is the e6400

I'm not to sure i re installed the computer that day and i downloaded a bunch of drivers

I forgot to mention when i try to power up the computer the case fan LED light turns on for a split second and the fan trys to spin

i agree with clarkjd... could be the cpu it can pass a psu test if you use a tester but it could still be faulty... came a across a few of those over the pass 2 weeks... where i use a psu tester all the lights came on but it wont power up the system
