Possible to upgrade?

Hello all, I recently started playing DFUW, and my computer won't cut it. I guess I had it coming, since I haven't upgraded my PC or purchased a new one in probably 5-6 years. Anyways, I was just wondering if it would be possible to slowly upgrade my system rather than purchasing a new one outright, since I just bought a new car and don't really have the money for a completely new one.

My specs:

  • ■GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400
    ■CPU: AMD Athlon 7750 x2 (2.7ghz)
    ■RAM: 4GB DDR2(?)

I downloaded AIDA32, but it said my mobo was unknown, so I can't really fill that out here..

Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. DFUW is very CPU dependent, so I'd like to start off by upgrading that if possible, and I realize I'd need to upgrade my MOBO/PSU as well. I'm just not very computer hardware savvy, and don't wanna screw something up.

Solution
hyper evo 212 is about the best bang for the buck you'll find in the low cost market.

as for mbs... Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 or a M5A97 LE R2.0.. both will do the job.

Until next month, I'd only have a few hundred to spend. I thought that would be the case, and my intentions would be to build a new computer completely, but piece by piece since I don't have all of the money right now.

I would also need to upgrade my PSU before those parts would even run on my pc, would I not? Or are you talking about building a new one from scratch, and not even bothering with my system? I'm just impatient I guess, and don't want to wait a month or two before I can buy a new one completely, hehe, I'd rather play this game now ^^.

I looked at some of the systems with the PhII x4 965 on newegg, but all were sold out. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it.

depends on the psu... if its a 400w psu? no... you won't need a new one.

I just want to emphasize the fact if you buy them part by part, make sure you buy an AM3+ socket. While the 965 is a good CPU, there are stronger ones out there which shouldn't be overlooked (possible future upgrade). I've always said this, think as if the computer is a long term investment. Don't look for the short term solution. You'll pay more in the end if you do.

AMD sockets are not like intel sockets. An AM3 chip will work in an AM2+, AM3 and AM3+ mb... assuming the propper bios updates and the motherboard can deal with the power demands of the chip.

(apparently they'll even work in an AM2 mb with possible manual altering of the chip... i remember reading about someone clipping a pin off an AM3 chip to put it into an AM2 mb... and surprisingly, it still worked),

The PhII x4 965 will work fine in ANY am3+ mb
