Hey guys, I wrote out a theoretical build for a friend, I haven't been reading up on hardware lately but I tried putting together a quick $500 build. The price came out to about $497 not including shipping, coupon codes, or mail in rebates.

Here's the build:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871&Tpk=AMD%20Athlon%20II%20X4%20640%20Propus%203.0GHz%20Socket%20AM3%2095W&IsVirtualParent=1

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130679

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148543

CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233073

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171065

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

I wanted to stick with newegg as they can be trusted, but if you can find the same part/better part for less from tigerdirect or amazon, those will work as well.

I'm not sure if I should change the parts at all, my friend wants to use the PC for gaming.

The only thing I'm a bit worried about is the power supply and the case, I've heard cooler master is decent and as much as I'd like to get a better brand, I don't think it would be within the budget. I've also never used the case brand before so I can't comment on that.

What changes would you guys recommend? Are the parts all compatible? Would you suggest any better parts? Thanks in advance!

Hey, looks pretty good to me. A lot of value for under $500! Don't forget the optical disk and the OS. Spend $30 bucks and get an after-market CPU cooler. Arctic Cooling or CoolerMaster will do nicely.
