Upgrading my GPU from ATI 6950 to something in the range of 200-350

A friend of mine is building his first gaming PC so I'm selling my GPU (ATI 6950 2GB Sapphire) to him; however, I would be left with none so I kinda need your help.

I'm looking towards HD 7950 because of its price and capabilities, but I was kind of disappointed with my previous ATI (I could not upgrade my driver beyond 12.8) so an Nvidia would be preferred if not then I guess I go back to ATI.

Here's my spec

Yeah, the 7950 is a fairly good deal, if you really want to upgrade. Here it is, for £210

It really is better bang for the buck, than Nvidia. Nvidia offers the 660 ti for £20 more, and its performance is worse

Are you at all interested in waiting until the HD 8000/GTX 700 series? That's supposed to be out in the next few months, though.

Most modern titles support SLI. If power supply is of concern, get a single card like the 7950 it can be overclocked to beat a 7970.

But if you plan to add another card in the future you're better off with an Nvidia solution like GTX 660 Ti or GTX 670 because Crossfire has frame stutter issues, not to mention the amount of frames that you won't effective get to see (like runt and dropped frames)

Well even if it goes out I doubt the price will be the same as the previous ones.

Seems like a good idea, but comparing it to a 7950 OC'ed to 7970 - the SLI it'll will still have a higher power usage.

How are they? I'm more interested in the sapphire with 2 fans.

@ johnkx: Where are you? People are linking UK and US sites and my tiny brain is confused.
As for performance, I got a 7950 (XFX DD 800/1250-stock clocks) for Christmas and swapped it for my long suffering, much modded (and flashed :) ) 6950.
Performance is actually fairly similar with no AA but the 7950 really struts its stuff with a little extra eye candy enabled-it's faster with 4xAA in Crysis than the 6950 was without.
The Sapphire will, probably be a little quieter than my card, which produces noticeable air roar and fan whine under heavy loads, although it's still quieter than a stock 6950.

I live in US - I don't mind UK links since I care more about the model than where to buy.

The card that you linked to me have infamous reviews for running too hot.

@ johnkx: It would be better to shop in the US, not all UK E-tailers will ship internationally and it's probably going to be cheaper. And do n't even mention the hassles of making a warranty claim!
All the main players supply cards with more efficient coolers than the stock single fan design. I suggest you check the feedback on Newegg and read a few reviews before making a final decision.
