hey all first time overclocking here and need some help i bough a 2 x 4gb kit of samsung 30NM memory as have read number of reviews saying they are bang for buck and can overclock to 2400mhz no problem

ok so here is the problem i have set timmings of 9-10-10-25-1t @ 1.5v to hit 2133mhz but in bios its still coming up as 1600mhz just wondering what have i missed

system spec

cpu: Core i3 3220T
mainboard: Msi B75IA-E33
os: windows 7 64bit

thanks

well... timings and frequency are two different things...

to increase the frequency of memories you need to increase base clock rate of the cpu. (usually referred as BCLK)
you can run different timings on different frequencies they dont effect each other while you are trying to adjust them.

but

they do effect each other when it comes to stability while operating.
usually faster frequencies needs to work with loosened timings to be more stable.

edit: im not really sure you can play with the base clock much with that cpu and board btw...

edit2: if you cannot increase the frequency... you can shorten the timings to have increased performance on your memories. meaning you can set your memories to 7-7-7-20-T1 or 8-8-8-22-T1

for instance: lets say most of 1333MHz memories comes with 9-9-9-24-T2 timings on factory set

also looking at ark intel this cpu can be the bottle neck of my problem ok will try droping the timing and post back thanks

board i understand is no z77 preformance but web site states: Support two DDR3 DIMMs 1066/1333/1600/1866*/2000*/2133*(OC), 2200*/2400*/2600*/2667*/2800*(OC, 22nm CPU required) MHz up to 16GB max

if it comes down to it will have to get a new cpu or will till june for intels new Haswell

thanks for your post will try those timings

short timings are good and you will actually notice the difference. but they are likely to be unstable at times when your system is under stress which means they are likely to crash. try not to shorten them much. the good thing is that you dont have to raise the voltage like you have to do with frequency.
