I recently bought a new desktop and I have a few (seemingly) unrelated problems with the graphics card and the ram. Long post incoming...

My specs:

Motherboard: ASRock B75 Pro3-M
RAM: Corsair PC3-12800 1600Mhz 4GB Vengeance CL9 DDR3
Graphics card: MSI Radeon HD7850 OC 1GB GDDR5
HD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA III 3.5
CPU: Intel 1155 i5 3350P 3.1GHz 6MB Box
PSU: XFX PRO 450W V2 Core Edition
Case: Nox Nova

My graphics driver used to crash all the time while gaming, so I RMA'd it.
But the new card has the exact same issue. Setting the idle memory and core clock speeds to the same as "working" mode makes this much less frequent. That means, increasing idle core clock from 300 to 900MHz and memory clock from 150 to 1200MHz.
Two cards having the exact same problem leads me to believe the real problem is somewhere else (maybe the ram or even the PSU?).

With the new card I have another problem (maybe the old card had this too, I just never noticed it?).
My monitor only supports VGA, connecting it to the card with a DVI to VGA adapter causes the colors to look really blurry. I've tried the adapter that came with the card and one borrowed from a friend and the problem persists.
With a Mini Display-port to VGA adapter (the Apple one) there's no color issues whatsoever.
So I guess it's safe to assume the problem is in the card's DVI port? Is there anyway to fix it?

EDIT: Pictures comparing Mini DP vs DVI

Mini DP to VGA

With the Mini DP there are some weird annoyances however. Unless I'm using either the driver provided by MSI or the latest beta driver, the resolution is locked at 640x480. Also, sometimes the resolution changes when waking the pc from sleep, forcing me to unplug and replug the adapter for it to go back to normal.

Finally, I decided to run Prime95 and Memtest86 to check if my system was stable. And alas, it is not.
Prime95 reports Rounding Errors in just a few minutes.
Memtest also finds errors in just a few minutes (1 or 2 passes).
I tested my single RAM stick in 2 of the 4 slots and there were errors both times. Safe to assume the RAM is bad or should I still test in the other 2 slots in case it's the Motherboard's fault?

Any suggestions are very much appreciated, thanks all :)

Have you got another monitor to test with the video card? The DVI-to-VGA adapter is nothing more than a plug converter. It's just got a couple of wires inside, so it really shouldn't be causing any problems. I would guess that either the monitor or video card is faulty.
If its not the DVI adapater for your video card, try another one., here a guide http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/dvi-cables.... .. maybe can help you

I have been using this monitor for years on other computers without any issues.
I usually connect this monitor to my macbook pro without any problems as well. Additionally, as I said in my post, with a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter the image is 100% fine while with a different DVI-VGA adapter it's also blurry. Therefore I'm pretty convinced the monitor is good.

I'll see if I can borrow another monitor from a friend and try it.
Maybe I'll also try to connect something through HDMI just to check.

PS: I'll upload pictures (comparing normal image and blurry) and edit the original post with the links
