Write speed is very slow (please help!)

My hard drive is WD caviar green wd10eacs 5400 rpm (bought it in 2008), and today I saw benchmarks reviews that show that I should be getting much faster writing speed (and maybe read as well), because Im getting about 20MBps write speed (by write speed I mean speed when copying a movie for example to the same folder).

So I wonder what is the problem??

Solution
First of all, thank you for the answer, it finally makes sense.
In addition, does what you say mean that Ill get faster speeds only if I
use another hdd or sdd to copy to?

And last question - will caviar black (1TB 7200 rpm 64mb) give me much better results (double speed or more) with the read and write limitations?

when you read a write to the same hard drive you are severly limiting its speed. The drives heads have to move to the file to read a piece of it them move again and write a piece to the destination, back to the source to get another piece and repeat the process over and over...

if you want to test your HDDs fastest speed you need to test with 1 file from another source and write to a contiguous section of the HDD so that the heads barely move. Most review drives are tested empty, half full, and full to get performance metrics from the fastest, middle of the raod, and slowest areas of the drive (the fuller your drive is the slower it is typically)
