CPU Fan Failure?

Hi. I recently installed an MSI Nvidia GTX 660 on my Dell Studio XPS 7100. When I start the computer it says CPU Fan failure, so I pressed F1 to continue. I installed the drivers and restarted the computer and now it just shuts off 2-3 minutes after I turn it on! Someone help! Here are my specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 3Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 @ 665 MHz
PSU: 460 Watts
HDD: 7200 RPM

When it says CPU fan failure that tends to suggest that the CPU fan is NOT running.As its the CPU fans job to stop the CPU getting hot I will go ahead and guess that your CPU is shutting down due to it being too hot.

Hopefully this is just a case of the CPU fan cable coming loose. in which case you can just reattach it. Depending on how many times you have tried to run it you may have killed to CPU by repeatedly heating the CPU to a temperature that is higher that that which it is designed to run at.
Hopefully for your sake the TDP cut out has saved you from that 50/50 chance really.

"CPU Fan failure" would seem to indicate an issue with the CPU fan. Shutting down after a couple of minutes reinforces that (CPU overheating).

Is the CPU fan plugged in and working correctly?

you're killing your cpu STOP!

It says cpu fan failure because your cpu cooling fan is either not plugged in or broken. You're overheating your cpu, the system is shutting down to protect it from burning up.

check the fan is in fact plugged in. then make sure it is in fact cooling your cpu by looking at the cpu temps... the PhII should never be over 60C.

Ok, I fixed the problem. I opened up my computer again and saw that a cable was blocking the CPU fan. So, I moved it, turned the computer back on, and the error disappeared.

This is a suggestion not related to his post, but related to this PC.
With CPU upgrade it is possible to overclock this PC, otherwise you are on the verge of bottlenecking your 660?
Would you be interested?

I have the same error msg on my newly built CPU, I check the temperature and its all at like 59 degrees Farenheit, when I first open the computer in a cold room. All the fans are working according to it also just at a very low rpm. 300's i actually saw 1 working at 2,456....in the same time. So im not sure whats going on
