Can a monitor bottleneck FPS performance in benchmarks?

I just benchmarked my system with Metro 2033 on my new monitor. I went from a 60Hz IPS to a 144Hz TN. The Metro 2033 benchmark is showing like 4 to 6 FPS better.

Is that because the monitor can actually handle those extra FPS now?

Or is that just natural variability?

A monitor will not effect FPS if no v-sync is used. However, it will help if v-sync is enabled, as you get over twice as many changes to display a frame.

That said, if you use the lightboost trick, to remove any motion blur at all, it causes a larger performance loss, as 3D Vision drivers running cause a loss of FPS, even if not used.
