Hi there, I am looking to upgrade my sad 300w PSU on my new pc to at least a 500w PSU. I ordered a Corsair CX500M, but noticed that it is lacking an additional 4 pin plug that runs right by the processor. Also the fan of this unit would be blowing directly onto my GeForce 640 (not cool, in many ways). Sooooo after hours of searching in the forums and online I decided to turn to the gurus here on the forums to see if anyone can help me out.

So in summary: I need a PSU that has at least 500w with a 24 pin and an additional 4pin that runs to the board as well as has a back blowing exhaust. Thanks so much!

here are the links to the PC

Solution

You've got it wrong.

Corsair power supplies use an 8-pin CPU power connector that splits in half. Use half of this connector for the 4-pin EPS/ATX 12v connector on your motherboard.

The CX500M's 120mm fan is an intake fan that draws air into the power supply unit to cool its heatsinks and the warm air exits out of the back of the power supply unit.

Thanks, cookieninja and ko888 - Especially ko888 for educating me in the fine points of power supplies! Thank you so much! I am now running my PC comfortably with the corsair 500w PSU I ordered and I was able to cancel the rma and get a refund on the shipping label. You are a lifesaver! :)
