Alright, this summer I will be buying a whole bunch of computer upgrades. A few of these will be a sound card, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Creative---Sound-Blaster-Z-Sound-Card/7919055.p?id=1218862379968&skuId=7919055, a headset, and a 2.1 speaker system. My main question is what should I get for a headset that has 7.1 surround or can sound good with simulated surround from my soundcard . I do not mind not getting a headset without a mic since I may buy a mic that sits on my desktop. Also, is the sound card I picked good?

Hi, I am not sure about your headset question but the Asus Xonar are cheaper and from what I have read are just as good as the Creative. The Creative sound cards have EAX which I THINK aids some games in sound but Asus has a similar feature that is comparable.

Also the card you list only supports a maximum of a 5.1 system. I don't use headsets and I am not sure if they support 7.1 - I do think they support surround sound.

Also check you motherboard sound system - I have been hearing that with modern motherboards you may not need a sound card. I have the Asus Xonar DX which I picked up on sale for $60.00 and it produces cleaner sound but it there is not an overwhelming difference from the built-in sound card in the motherboard.

I would go with a Astro A50 headset. It is quite expensive, but the quality is great. Even though it has a mic on it, just move it to the up position, and it shuts it off. Then get a desktop mic. I like the Blue Snowball or Blue Yeti.
