i just turned on my new computer (i built it myself) it got into the bios fine then when i tried installing my windows vista it only got to the loading screen and the green bars just kept going past, if you have any idea why this is happening it would help loads thanks

there are 2 setting ide config and achi config the hard drive is in the ide config

 
OK so it isn't that then. Memory is still probably the best likelihood so if you can get to a Command Prompt from the StartUp Repair tools on your Vista installation DVD, type memtest and hit Enter. It takes a while but it might give you a clue. The quicker way is to remove one of the RAM sticks and see if that system can run on the other. If it can't, take that stick out and pop the other back in and try again.

A HUGE thanks to you guys!!! This post helped me out SO much!!! My Windows 7 Installation was getting messed up each time, turned out, it was my RAM. I don't really know how RAM has to do anything with it but it worked! Thank you SO MUCH!
