Javascript(?) no longer works Chrome

Hi, thanks for taking time to read through.

Javascript recently (A few hrs ago) stopped working in Chrome.
- Everything is up to date
- What I mean by Javascript is things like sign in to Tom'sHardware required me using Firefox since nothing would happen
- I can no longer list things in websites by order

What happened is I disabled my Avast! to install and download a game. This game is legit. I have concrete reason to believe it is not virus plagued, as it is from reputable/ many downloads/ paid item, plus I ran a virus scan with Avast! and Spybot S&D of my system.

Disabling and then re-enabling Javascript doesn't solve the issue, nor does clearing cache and history

  1. I disabled every extension and it works now. I hadn't done anything to extensions. An Avast! browser extension that wasn't even enabled must have been causing the issue. I guess I'll restart each extension one by one and see which is problematic. I hope this helps whoever has this issue in the future, because I couldn't readily find anything via Google.
  2. Personally, I wouldn't put anything on my PC that's flagged by Avast as a virus. One time, there was a punk buster update that tripped something in Avast so I refrained from running programs using it. I sent the Avast support team an e-mail message about it. After they confirmed it was not a virus, within hours of me reporting the issue they distributed a virus definition update. This was when I was using the free version of their software! Talk about support?!

What is the name of the game and the site you got it from? This information will help anyone realize what to expect and add to the knowledge base?

It ended up being a youtube downloader extension that was causing the issue. Nothing was ever flagged by Avast!. The issue occured around the exact same time I downloaded my new game so I believed that combined with Avast! was somehow causing the problem.

I disabled the youtube downloader extension and Javascript returned to normal. When I clicked the Chrome page for extensions, looking for an updated version, it said the extension had been taken down by the owner(?). I did what research I could about extensions being security risks, but I didn't find anything in particular about youtube downloaders.

What I'm going with is the YT downloader knocked out the javascript since it was no longer supported.
