Hi.

I know this is going to sound stupid to a whole lot of you guys but I am building my first gaming pc and how do I make sure that my PC has both Wifi and Bluetooth?

I am obviously going to need them for downloading games and mods and also connecting different devices.

Do I need to purchase a specific motherboard with those capabilities, buy an adapter or do those features just come as part of the package nowadays?

If anyone can help without making me feel too stupid that would be great!

there is a variety of ways now days to get wifi and bluetooth onto your pc , Some motherboards do have either bluetooth and /or wifi built into them
You can buy a Wifi networking Card or dongle if u need to

The only desktop computers that come with wi-fi and bluetooth integrated are Apple's Macs. Notebooks also have this feature integrated. Your motherboard will not come with this features. But this is very easy to buy.

For bluetooth, get a simple Bluetooth dongle. Its a USB adapter the size of a fingernail. You plug it in and it works automatically.

For wi-fi, you also need an adapter. My recomendation is also a USB adapter, as its easy to plu/unplug. Among the choices, I recomend TP-Link, they are making awsome products nowadays, check their website or newegg for their products.

Out of curiosity, Asus is including bluetooth integrated with a few specific model of their motherboards. Its usually their high-end models, costing around $200, but I recomend not paying atention to this when choosing a mobo, as a bluetooth adapter is around $10.

What you need for downloading games is an internet connection. The question is, how do you want to connect to your router: wifi or LAN cable? And i don''t see, where you need a bluetooth adapter. Most bluetooth devices like mice include the adapter. A smartphone / tablet would be an exception.

a usb dongle for bluetooth yes but unless your set up is close to your modem/router i wouldn't recommend using a usb dongle for wifi networking, a friend of mine did buy one for his setup ( had a pc in his garage for the kids) and it had very slow speeds when connecting to the internet , i brought him a wifi network card for about $25 AU and installed that for him and he was blown away by the increase in speeds he was getting

Can you recommend a good bluetooth USB dongle that would work then?

Would this wifi adapter simply work by picking up the Wifi connection in my house from my wireless router?
My Wifi router is pretty good

I'd suggest a PCI or PCIeX1 Wi-fi card, or just ignore that idea and run an ethernet cable to the router. the wi-fi cards should easily pick up your house wi-fi, and will come with appropriate drivers

Yes, I want to wirelessly connect to a Wifi router I already own.
Is this possible?

When it comes to the bluetooth, it is not an absolute necessity but I do own a nice pair of wireless bluetooth headphones I would like to use on the PC

Where can these cards be gotten and will they work as well as the Wifi on my laptop?

almost anywhere. Newegg, Best Buy, Tiger Direct, Super Biiz, etc.

Concerning the bluetooth headset: by far not every usb bluetooth adapter supports the required audio protocol! The headset manual should mention the protocol name. Check the usb adapter if it supports that same protocol.
