I have recently been given a Dell 17R SE which has Dell's recommended 8gb of Ram in it. Obviously I would like to completely ignore their recommendation and put 16gb of RAM in but could a Genius/Guru on this subject advise me on RAM (supplier, speeds CAS etc) I'd like to get the very best out of what I put into it. I have no idea what can be done to overclock any/all parts of my system but I'd love to explore with some skilled advice.

From the Dell support forum, in response to an identical question:
"Well, Dell does not recommend 2 sticks of 8 GB RAM each installed in this system as that may cause a motherboard failure. However installing 8 GB, 1600 MHZ chips may or may not work.

Let me know in case there are any other concerns. Glad to be of assistance.

Thanks & Regards

However...
Other people there are reporting that 16gb does work. Proceed at your own risk.

From a recommended point of view this is correct. However... I have seen this exact model running under current BIOS with 16gb in it. I just didn't, ask at the time, any details.
