my monitor is sa950d, graphics card is 7970 ghz edition, asus sabertooth z77 is the mother board. im gonna be using the dvi-d or display port to connect the monitor. im playing games at 1080p@120hz(mostly 2d) and i wtch movies in 3d.
so my doubt is whether to connect the monitor to the mother board or to the graphic card and whats the difference between these two connections

You want to use the graphics card.It has way better performance than the on board chip. That is why you bought it...right? You may have to select the graphics card as the default device in the bios. If you do not connect to the card you will not get any benefit from your purchase. The 7970 replaces the relatively low performance integrated chip. GL hope this helps.
