I feel like its a driver issue with the game causing the OCs to become very unstable. I too have a Sapphire 7950 OC'd to 1150 Core and 1450 Mem at 1.25V. I have incredibly similar issues with Dead Island when VSync is off. I usually just change my OC profile to default when I'm playing it to avoid any issues. Even at the stock clocks that card shreds Dead Island with 150+ Frames.

If he is running stable on Metro then it is certainly not an unstable overclock. It is either a driver issue or an issue with this particular card and that game. As I said, I have the same issue, yet I can go for hours in BF3/Far Cry3 and not a single tear or anything

Not all games run with equal stability. I can play any game all night with my current overclock, except far cry 3 which might crash in just a few minutes. Just make a few overclocking profiles in the program that you use so you can switch between overclocks quickly.
