I am building a gaming pc and I have $1100 to spend on components. For gaming I have my eyes set on either a AMD Radeon hd 7950 or the NVidia gtx 670. I just want to know which has a better price to performance ratio and which is better overall.

You can get 7950s for around 300 dollars, making them a bit cheaper on average then the 670. Both cards perform extremely well. In my experience, AMD's cards typically overclock a bit better (That is MY experience). I've got a good friend with a OC'd 670 and we compared in several benchmarks once. His 670 Overclocked beat my 7950 Overclocked by no more than 5-10 frames max in most situations. Some games, such as Tomb Raider, I've found to favor the 7950.

Bottom line you'll be satisfied either way. Both cards can max (Including 8X AA) 98% of the modern games out there at 1920x1080

Side note:
If you go with the GTX670 I would recommend the Gigabyte versions of the card and if you go with the 7950 I recommend the Sapphire and Gigabyte versions

670 is better if you're not OCIng and if your at 1080p. 7950 is better if you get a decent OC out of it or play at a higher resolution. However a 670 has no issue playing at higher resolutions, its just the 256 bit memory interface can be a little cramping for it.

I have three rigs one with a Crossfire Sapphire HD 7950 a Crossfire Sapphire 7970 and a SLI Gigabyte SLI GTX 670. All in all you can't go wrong with either card they both will perform extremely well. It really boils down to what you need. If you need Physx and CUDE get Nvidia if you do not need Physx get AMD you will not go wrong either way.
