Bad driver causing display problems?

Trying to get an old Sapphire Radeon HD 4650 512MB card with my new Core i7 / Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H / Dell UltraSharp U2412M. Until I can afford one, I'm stuck using this video card.

Something is just plain wrong and I'm hoping it's the video card and not this new Dell monitor. Everything looks fine for the most part - except there's a ton of jagged edges on text. I especially notice this when I'm in Illustrator. Sometimes I get an error saying the driver is incompatible or Catylst Control Center is not working properly.

I'm wondering if there's a conflict when using this ATI card? Can anyone recommend a way to fix this? I tried taking out the card and just plugging into the onboard video, but of course that doesn't work. Any help appreciated!

does your i7 comes with the HD3000 graphics? if so can you plug the monitor to the motherboard if it keeps showing it might be the monitor, if you have spare one and it does the same it might be video driver issue.

Oh I forgot I think you need to download legacy drivers for that video card, the 2000,3000 and 4000 series are now legacy.

Well I plugged it into the onboard graphics processor - HD 4000? and man it's still looking like dookie. Frustrated. Especially making a "W" in Illustrator - the anti-aliasing is terrible. I understand this isn't retina - but just bought this monitor in Jan so I'm hoping its something other than that!

Well it looks like it might be a bad monitor, try a different one. If it still happens could be the motherboard or windows screw up the display drivers, a windows reinstall might fix it. Did you try to use that monitor on a different computer?

I don't know if you try the options on the monitor to correct that, perhaps its just a bad adjustment but sense you said there is an issue with catalyst control center my bet is that you probably need legacy drivers for that video card.
