I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card due to it being very bad ( a Intel HD Graphics 3000) and while my comp is a laptop, I can change the graphics card as i checked already. I'm thinking of buying a Nvdia video card but according to forums my computer might not be able to handle some video cards and i don't know which i can run so please help! I would prefer a dedicated video card for gaming.

Here is my computer specs:

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP ProBook 4230s
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4030MB RAM
Graphics Card; Intel Hd Graphics 3000
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Yeah, I'm pretty confident you can't upgrade the GPU on this laptop. Most laptops you can't. I've looked around the internet and everyone of the 4230s I've seen ship with HD 3000 graphics. If you were able to change the graphics, I might have seen different cards. Another reason you can't upgrade is because it's a business laptop. If it were a personal laptop made for gaming or video editing, the chance for upgrades would go up.

And sadly...

check to see if it has PCI-ex 16 if it does then you are good, oh also check the power supply to see if it can handle the video card you want. Check with the manufacture for the specs. Its for a laptop then, and here I though it was a desktop. Sense you were thinking of buying a video card I though it was for a desktop. Good luck finding one for a laptop.

I THINK i should be able to change the graphics card for i opened the comp since the manual didn't give any help and looking at the graphics card, i should be able to take it out and put it back in.

OK, if i can't change my graphics card could buying ram help increase fps in games for i get like 15-20 fps in modern games and one thing i'm scared of is that i'm going to buy guildwars 2 soon and i'm really scared its gonna be really laggy even at lowest graphics and i'll waste my money.

And sadly your fear is note worthy. Here is Intel HD 3000 graphics overview: Intel HD 3000 It appears that GW2 will get a max of 32 FPS on low. You may be able to play it, but I don't think it would be enjoyable. Adding more RAM won't really help unless you are hitting the max amount of RAM. And that will probably fix shuttering.

The only thing I can suggest is buying/building a desktop. Sorry.

Ok thnks for the info for 32fps at low is a big relief for i'm really used to playing games at low graphics and GW2 at low graphics still looks good by my standards. Thnks for the info
