Hi,

I am new to pc building. Recently, I try to build a pc. Everything is OK but only the LAN part had a problem. The network cable will automatically unplugged and reconnecting repeatedly when there is large amount of usage of data. I follow the solution I saw on line by changing the speed and duplex settings to 10 Mbps full duplex. It solved the problem but again after large amount of data used, another problem shows up. The network shows there is no internet access. I have changed a few cables already. I am not sure now if it is the motherboard problem or the drivers or the settings problem. My home speed is very slow(1 Mbps, 1 Kbps download speed, 0.3 Kbps upload speed). Can it be the reason?

Please help me with this issue. Thank you very much.

My computer:
Intel i5-3570K
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H REV 1.1
Kingston HyperX 2x4 GB RAM 1333 MHz
Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce GTX 650Ti
Corsair ATX power supply VS550
Cooler Master Centurion 6 Casing

Network Adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR8161/8165 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)

have you tried updating the driver ? you can go to gigabyte website and update your drivers there, because sometimes the CD drivers shipped with he board are outdated specially if they are an old production batch that was sent to you. i use the same board and i had not an identical problem but a similar where my connection sometimes get randomly cut .. i downloaded the latest driver and it worked 3 months now without a problem

To Emilvl2,

Thank you for your help. =D I tried to update the driver for the network adapter already. It did not help. Is there any situation that high usage of data or long time usage of internet will cause the LAN to shows there is no internet access? Or the LAN will keep showing the Network Cable unplugged and reconnecting repeatedly? I did suspect it is the hardware issue but the LAN never behaves like that when I only use it to watch videos or play some games like League of Legends. Is it possible that hardware failure cause the situation to be like that?

Thank you very much again. =)

several things to be checked but not sure if you can fix problem through those checkpoints, so you can check everything as possible ..
go to lan properties and check "allow this computer to turn off this device for saving power" .. some option like that ..
and check "Advance" .. there is limitation to flow control .. and other option .. try to enable/disable to see any difference.

To BerylLee,

I tried to switch the option when the problem occurs but nothing changed. Is there any other method? I have exchanged 1 more new motherboard from the dealer. Is it the whole Gigabyte motherboard batch got problem?

Thank you very much again. =D

@@ .. i don't think this model gets problem like this in whole batch .. so you may need to find out network condition as a basic check .. is it possible to get some free download tool to help huge file downloading .. ?

To BerylLee,

I got this problem when I am using software like Thunder Network(Free Download Manager) and PPStream(Free Video Streaming) but the download speed is about half as low compared to what I did with my previous laptop although sometimes it does go to the normal download speed. I know bit torrent download speed might be unstable also. =] I will try to download some large software also.

>.< I am sorry that I am not sure what the network condition should be.=[ I think should be the network settings problem.

Thank you very much for your help again. =D

To Emilvl2 and BerylLee,

Thank you for your help. I have found the problem. This is because my network driver is not up to date. Both Gigabyte official website and CD do not contain the latest driver. I tried to search on the net to update my network driver to the latest version and it works perfectly. Thank you very much.;P

hi quekzai, I am having the same problem as you were. The latest driver I can find for the atheros ethernet adapter is 2.1.0.7
this is the driver on the gigabyte site, where did you find a newer one?

Hi markmul,

The latest driver version is 2.1.0.15. I cannot find the driver also. I used DriverMax to download it. However, after using it sometimes, I found it inconvenient to use as it has limit. So, I switched to SlimDrivers and use it until now.

DriverMax - http://www.drivermax.com/

SlimDrivers - http://www.driverupdate.net/download.php

I hope this can solve your problem also. If you cannot solve using this software, please come back again.
