To be honest, I have not considered cooling to much until Arma 3. My rig has high temp readings when playing this game. I really dont have a lot of knowledge when it comes to cooling my rig, I have several 120mm fans in case, 4 or 5 total, I have a large case, my question is what should I consider?

MOBO = asus m2n-sli deluxe

CPU = AMD phenom 9850 quad standard heat sink that it came with.

Graphics = 2 GTX 660 SLI

8 gigs ram
windows 7
1000wt power

Solution
It's obvious you need a CPU cooler. You could buy a CM Evo or step up to a H80i. Water cooled systems allow for more breathing room in the case.

Best bang for buck is definitely CM Evo. CPU will never run hot unless you press it to point of insanity.

Before changing anything, you should consider why it isn't cooling properly.

What is the current configuration of the fans? Location and direction.
Is everything reasonably dust-free, incl the filters?

Maybe think about a better CPU cooler.

Hey. Some fans are blowing on MOBO/CPU and others are taking hot air out.....I think its ARMA 3 max'd out settings TBH. I take the stance of overkill when its regarding my PC. I would rather have too much than the opposite especially when it comes to keeping the PC nice and cool.

I have thought about a better CPU cooler.......what next? Is there a guide to figuring out what would work best with my MOBO etc...

Throwing more hardware at it should never be the first solution. A water cooler in a badly configured, dust filled case will yield minimal benefits.

I didn't say it was minimal.
I said 'if anything else is wrong, adding liquid cooling is of minimal help'

If everything else is great, and you still need more cooling, then yes. Add it.
