OS: Windows 7 64 bit Home edition.

Windows photo viewer cannot open any of my jpeg files. It gives me the message:

"windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer."

The same pictures open just fine in paint, and on my laptop with the same OS on photo viewer so I am positive it is not a problem with the pictures themselves.

I recently moved the location of some windows temp folders to a secondary drive, and I also installed all the windows updates available. Here is a screenshot of the temp folders i moved. Possible causes of issue?

I would prefer to try and fix windows photo viewer rather then download a different program but I have not found any solution thus far.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Josh

The thing is, Windows updates usually manages to screw up your system, it's always better to wait for a service pack.

You said you don't want to use a different software, but I would recommend you download and install IrfanView, it's one of the most popular and powerful free image viewer / editor.

Yea your probably right about windows update because after another update the next day picture viewer fixed itself - either that or switching the default viewer from paint then back to picture viewer after a restart did it. My guess is the update.

Thanks for the reply.
