Hey,

I have this router: Linksys WRT54G
My ISP is STV from Estonia and I have 50/20 on ADSL Fiber.

Router is working fine, I get internet access through wifi on my iPod and also on 2 computers just fine, but the speeds are terrible.

If I download something from steam through router then I average 2.4-2.8mbs speeds, but if I connect to the internet without the router then I get ~5.8-6.1mbs (like I should with 50mbps down)

Router version is 2.2 and I'm currently on firmware: v4.21.1, Nov. 6, 2006

What to do ?

It can't be my ISP. If I connect straight to the internet without my router then the speeds are as they should be.

I loved my old Linksys router....but it didn't support speeds that I needed. If I remember correctly, the router only supported 10MB WAN, 10/100MB on the LAN (local devices via ethernet), and Wireless G speeds (max 54MB). The new routers like I shared above support 10/100/1000MB LAN/WAN and 300MB via Wireless N.

The processor of the router also limits connection speed and distribution of the internet bandwidth - other computers using the device via ethernet and wireless G will limit speeds for everyone. The new routers are geared to deliver greater bandwidth.
