I'm looking to build my own PC. I'm pretty much almost set on my CPU and GPU. I'm looking at an Intel i5 2500k or intel i5 3570k. For the GPU its either going to be the AMD 7770 or the AMD 7850.

The components I am NOT sure of are the rest, especially the motherboard PSU and the case. For motherboards, how the heck do I know which one is good/better than another? For CPUs there is clock speed and GPUs you can lookup performance benchmarkes. What do I do for motherboards?

Also, how much does a decent motherboard thats compatible with the intel processor and AMD graphics card cost? Sli and crossfire are not needed for me.

Solution
The newest Z77 chipset motherboards is what you want, also you want the same CPU socket of course as well as same form-factor your case is going to be e.g. ATX motherboard for ATX case, mATX for mATX and so on. Most ATX cases do support mATX motherboards, but there really isn't any point in that as the prices aren't too far between.

Also do not get the 2500K over the 3570K. The i5 2500K is an older CPU and they're priced very close to each other, no point in buying older stuff for almost the same price. Also I recommend you get the HD 7850 or GTX 660 over HD 7770 if you'll be gaming at 1080p resolution.

Just mak sure it has what you want most name brand are all about the same quality wise. Look for sata ports you need, audio, PCI-e slots, socket type, raid options, ect. I would pick a price you want to spend then go to amazon or newegg and search by price. If you need more help put up the specific boards you are trying to pick from we can help more from there.

It would also be worth your time to see if you live near a microcenter or frys. I know it was worth driving twenty or thirty minutes to get a 3770k for around 250 bucks. While they beat a lot of online prices on cpus, mobo or gpu usally about the same or better on the egg.
