A while back a laptop repair man replaced a broken power jack. he did a bad job on it and fried the jack section on the motherboard. so i'm going to take the laptop back and replace the motherboard myself before he breaks anything else.

Now i was wondering if i buy a new motherboard, take everything off of the old motherboard replace it and put all the components back together, do i have to re install the bios? or should the new board already come with the bios installed? and if i do have to install the new bios does it come with the board? if not where would i get the bios?

Solution
The BIOS is part of the motherboard it is a chip on the motherboard (sometimes replacable but often soldered in on laptops). You should not need to do anything with the BIOS past setting the CMOS clock once the laptop is back together. Since you are limited to replacing the motherboard with an identical model, no updates should be needed. The swap should be virtually 'plug-n-play'
