Hi! I searched for a while and couldn't figure out if the response time will make a huge difference.
I usually use my PC for gaming (SC2, LoL, and some fps) and watching movies.
I do know that the LG IPS224V has a 14ms response time and TN Monitors 2ms~5ms. My current monitor is an AOC 18.5 LCD 1440x900, it has a 5ms response time.

Will that 14ms make a huge difference for me? Is the LG IPS really worth it?
In my country there isn't a big selection of monitor, so Dell, Asus, Viewsonic, are out of the question, some of the monitors we have around here is:

LG LED 21,5'' E2241C
LED 21.5” Samsung S22B300B
LG IPS224V

Those are the best ones within my budget I guess.

We do have the Dell UltraSharp U2212HM but it is a little bit more expensive and I would have to wait 3 weeks for it.

Thanks!

People claim that anything over 8ms is terrible. I have found some IPS monitors around 6ms though but they are out of the question like you said. IPS has superior colour reproduction compared to TN however IPS has higher response times. But it has gotten better and most people can find a decent IPS gaming moinitor.

Hope this helps,

Unless your playing first person shooters I would say go with the IPS for better colours and viewing angles.

14ms is slow though, but should be fine for those things.

Do you guys think that going for a 1080p TN would be better then?
Is there any videos comparing a 14ms response time against 5ms? Because if it's not a really big difference I would prefer the image quality.

I could never go back to a TN panel after moving to IPS, even for FPS gaming.

That said, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to find an IPS display in the 5-7 ms response time range. It will not be as fast as a high quality TN panel but it should match the speed of typical budget (<= $200) displays.

The thing is there isn't any 5ms-7ms IPS Displays in that range in my country, if I import it I would be paying practically $400.

Have you ever tested those 14ms IPS with gaming? How was it?

I dunno why I never tried it before, but I just tried out Planetside 2 on my 16ms 2007FP rather than my main 1920x1200 5ms panel and I didn't really notice all that much difference. There may have been some strangeness in high speed turns but it was really hard to tell . . . it may have been related to vsync though . . . but it didn't really look like tearing. Most importantly it certainly didn't have any effect on my performance or ability to enjoy the game. Added bonus, the game looked way better :)

Actually I play mostly SC2 and LoL, would that 14ms effect it? What about movies?

You would think a 14ms panel would not game well but I didnt find anyone complaining of it and the reviews of the ips panel are rather good; even on Newegg.

I'm in fact leaning towards it, but does anyone have others opinions? Someone who used a 14ms IPS for gaming?

So I looked into the Dell S2340L, it costs a little more, but it has a 7ms response time with overdrive, anyone knows if this one is good for gaming?
