I have loaded Windows 7 onto my laptop, previously it was running Vista. My computer has been acting funny shortly afterward. Things like losing internet connection, slow loading of internet browser, not reading the cd/dvd drive, unable to play movies more than a few minutes, etc. The weird thing is when i go to computer it still says i'm running Vista. Someone has told me it might not be a virus, but the laptop is not changed over to windows 7. What can i do?

my dad used a disk to install windows 7 ultimate. the laptop came with vista installed in it. not sure if this answers your question. I also had a hard time logging in here. on a different site it wont let me bring up the log in.

Alright - couple problems that could be causing:

1) Upgrades aren't always flawless - there can often be issues that can arise from them.

2) Windows 7 Ultimate has some security flaws in it that the 'lesser' versions don't have.

If at all possible, get a clean install (*i.e. from an actual install disk, not an upgrade disk) of windows 7 home premium.

thanks i will ask him if he can do that. he was thinking of using a better version of windows 7 as well. not sure if its a upgrade or clean install either. in the meantime is there any security risks i should be cautious of. i have installed Malwarebytes and it has scanned nothing malicious. deleted it and then installed Avast, again nothing bad detected. thanks for the help, its much appreciated

Dont know if I should post here or elsewhere, but im getting weird things from internet explorer like pop ups and not being able to log onto here and another site, but when i use chrome i can get in. it has me concerned something is in my system or the malware and anti virus are missing something.
