Hello all, I'm considering upgrading my gpu because my current one isn't really doing it for me. My current build:

I3 3220 3.3 GHz Dual-core
ASRock B75M-DGS Micro ATX LGA1155
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Apex SK-393-C ATX Mid Tower
Cooler Master 450W ATX12V
HIS HD 7770

The one advantage the 660 has for me is that it has one 6-pin connector whereas the 7870 requires 2. As far as the 660ti goes, I'm not sure if there is much reason to get that for the extra price when it barely outperforms the standard 7870.

I could of course be wrong about that, which is why I'm here.

Any thoughts?

Sorry for the double post, but I have found a 7870 that requires only one 6-pin connector. Although, I can honestly say I don't know much about it:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103228&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Apparently it get's away with only one 6-pin connector because it's factory locked at 1.0ghz. But I'm not really interested in overclocking anyway.

theres not much of a difference at all between 7870 and 660, the 7870 is slightly faster overall, but depending on the game either can be faster. the 660ti outperforms the 7870 for sure, it is on par with the 7950, but with an i3 probably no point going for the 660ti as you will be cpu bottlenecked and wont see much of a performance gain.

I would target the games you like to play and see which card performs best in them. As a special consideration, decide if you will ever want to play any PhysX games, if so get the GTX 660. Getting a 7870 would effectively lock you out of the PhysX experience.

Here's a couple reviews with a bunch of benchmarks. See which of your favorite games play best on those cards.

you wont have problems, but your cpu will be the limiting factor in performance, it will depend on game though. some games are more cpu limited, some are more gpu limited.

Do you think bit-rate is the only factor in performance? if you do, then you are incredibly wrong. Go read some reviews.

hd 7870 is just slight faster than gtx 660.looking at price differnce i say gtx 660 is bang for buck.if you want to oc your gpu then hd 7870 is wise choice.bit rate never matter - performanc is imp.

As of the latest drivers and the 7950's better overclocking than the 660ti it certainly performs better than a 660ti. As for 7870 vs 660 I would go with 7870. 7850 is closer to a 660, 7870 is kind of an oddball... Faster than 660 but not quite as fast as a 660ti.

No, not the only thing, I do research before I buy, but since it not mentioned thus far, it was worthy and does factor.
