The other day I cleaned my computer just to get rid of dust bunnies and other stuff. I did not disconnect anything or remove any wires. Now my computer randomly shuts down. I downloaded hwmonitor and these are the temps. http://imgur.com/r6ArcNy. now my CPU is WAAAAY overheated. (thats idle nothing's open but the webpage i am using to type this up). Am I in the wrong to think my CPU is dead. All of my fans are working, I even downloaded MSI Afterburner just so i could speed the fans up a bit but nothing is working.

Build.

CPU = i5-2500K @ 3.30 Ghz
GPU = Nvidia GTX 560Ti 2 Gb
Mobo = Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3
Windows 7 Home Premium

if there is anything else i can do please let me know.

78C at idle...something is way out of whack.

Even though you didn't disconnect anything, your cooler is probably jarred loose.

It's probably not dead, but don't turn it on until you reseat the cooler, with a reapplication of paste.

You'd need to turn off the rocker swtich on the back of the PSU (so no power is being drawn from the mains power) then unseat and reseat all and every connection, including the ram. It is easy to knock loose a connection except those that click into place but you should also reseat them, regardless in case they weren't actually clicked into place properly and the cleaning knocked it further out of place, like the 12v connection cable.

Just how did you clean out those wascally wabbits? (hopefully not with a scrubbing brush!)

After I found out what the temps were i picked up some thermal paste and made sure my cpu cooler was secured tightly. I will have to go over everything again :/
