Red Sparkles on New Monitor

I recently picked up a new pair of monitors (AOC e2243Fw) and have been having an issue with one of them.

The problem can only really be described as red sparkles or artefacts in the darker areas of the screen.

- I have tried a different DVI cable, it made no difference.
- Tried a hard reset by taking out all cables, including power cable, leaving for a while, then putting back in.

Googling this error led me to believe that it was an error with my video card or cable, however if I disconnect the DVI cable, the native "AOC - No input detected" type menu also shows the red snow/sparkles in the dark spots, in the form of lines or random dots.

So it must be some kind of issue with the monitor. I only got it yesterday so it's under warranty. The second monitor has no issues. Old monitor had no issues and again, it isn't affected by being plugged into my Radeon 6870.

They also occasionally disappear for a short while when the monitor is first turned on, but come back within 5 minutes.

I have tried changing the colour balance, brightness, resolutions, all which made no effect or just made the problem worse. It hasn't made the monitor unusable, just annoying when handling dark colours.

Do I need to just return it and get a new model?

Thanks!

You can try a DisplayPort/HDMI connection if your graphics card and the monitor both have native support for them. If they don't help then your monitor really is busted. You can also try activating Alternate DVI operation mode from your Catalyst Control settings under My Digital Flat-Panels > Properties.

Thank you for your fast response.

I tried using VGA but made no difference. Alternate DVI Operation was active already, however disabling it made no difference also.

One thing to note is that the problem persists even without a display cable attached. The native, built in menus of the monitor are shown to be affected. I've attached an example below.

Thanks again.

You should've said that from the start.

I'm sure you guessed this by yourself already, but your monitor is broken. I can think of some ways to fix this, but it would only be temporary and the issue would return in time in all likelihood. So return it while you can.

Thanks for your help, I'll file for return now. It'll work for web browsing at least till I get it returned, I'll just game on the other side!

I'll leave the thread open in case of any miracle cures that people might know.
