So after a bit of a trojan problem I can finally reinstall windows 8 but when it asks me for my product key I have no idea where it is because windows 8 came with my PC which is brand new so it isn't on a box or anything. Can someone please help me find it?

if its not on a sticker on the computer, then call your manufacturer for support.

Alright I was enter my product key but this time it says I need to take out the installation disc, restart my computer, and then set a boot device or something. I just reentered the windows 8 disc but it just takes me through the same installation.

if you want to boot off of a dvd to reload windows, you must enter the bios, and set the optical (dvd) drive as the first boot device. then it will boot off of your windows dvd, and you can reload.

It is usually physically attached to the computer on a sticker. Sometimes it in on the inside of the removable side panel but most of the time it is on the outside of the computer. Don't reinstall unless you have the product key ready.

Pcs with windows 8 do not have the key printed on the sticker as the key is embedded in the bios.

It was set to boot from DVD already but it just took me through the same installation before asking me to take out the disc, turn computer off and on again, and re-entering the disc. Then it asks me to input a proper boot device but since a trojan destroyed things I just get a blue screen with distorted lines when I set the boot device to something else.

When you tried to install, did you get as far as the screen 'where do you want to Install Windows'? If so, choose 'Drive Options (Advanced)'. You will then see all your partitions, select one at a time and delete them until you have unallocated space equal to the size of your drive. If you see a partition called 'Recovery' cancel everything and try the 'Restore to Factory' which should be in your Manual

As I thought, the issue was the trojan was on another partition and just reinfecting it.
