I have tried to use hitachi dft to low level format a drive but the virus shuts down the computer before it finishes. How do I get rid of this thing? The motherboard is telling me there is a virus in the boot sector. I used avira, avast, ms security essentials, mcaffee from cox security suite, all to no avail. I would like to use a free one.

How do I know it is done erasing the drive? It has been 10 hours running and has a blancco advertisement up with a small text message on top that irq 16 has been disabled (reset, I think).

the ad comes up right away on my 500gb drive so it is failing to run and the virus is still there
the motherboard virus warning comes up when I use my windows xp install disk
this isn't a false alarm, right?
also when I use seatools to low level format it shuts off before completion

so my infected 500gb drive has to be hooked up to the same motherboard as my windows 1 tb drive?
then run combofix in my windows drive and the other drive will get fixed using combofix?

I chose to clean the hitachi several times but the ad comes up right away
and the virus is still there so it isn't erasing

Did that but still didn't work because the virus goes into memory and distorts dban output on the screen. then it freezes up before completion
