How do I get back my images and videos?

Hello! Need help on this issue.
I transferred a larger amount of images and videos of my little baby to a thumb drive by using “Cut” and “Paste” method. However, unfortunately, this thumb drive crashed when I tried to use it again. All of these images and videos were gone. How do I get back my images and videos?

1. Start here to possibly recover
2. Recognize that files, especially images, are fragile and should exist in 2 or more places.
3. Don't use Cut & Paste...use Copy & Paste. Once verified on the target, then delete the original
4. Make regular backups

All that happens when you cut and paste is the space the original files occupied is marked as free. If you haven't written over that space they should be perfectly intact. Just using the computer normal can cause this to happen though. So. Don't.

There are plenty of free recovery tools, recuva is probably the easiest for basic users. If at.all possible you want to connect the drive to another system though or use a boot CD and recover the files to another drive. ANY write access to the drive, even just booting windows, can cause you to lose files permanently.

Normally you'll get most back if the drive has not been heavily used but there is no guarantee, and almost never will you get all. (And a single USB drive is never a good place to store anything important).
